TCAP hosts 4th Project Board Meeting in Funafuti, October 2019

The Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project has held its 4th Project Board Meeting in the capital, Funafuti.
Led by the Honourable Minister of Finance/National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund/Chairman of the Board, Hon. Seve Paeniu, the meeting was attended by the Acting Director of Climate Change and Disaster, Ms Faafetai Namoto, Head of Treasury Department, Mr Peniuna Kaitu and Acting Director of the Central Procurement Unit, Mr Michael Aliimau.
Attending from project partners the UN Development Programme, were Country Director for UNDP Pacific, Mr Levan Bouadze; Team Leader for Resilience and Sustainable Development, Mr Kevin Petrini, Chief Technical Advisor Dr. Arthur Webb and Regional Technical Advisor, Ms Aishath Azza and all members of the Project Management Unit.
Key decisions of the Board included:
• Agreement that two island leaders from Nanumea and Nanumaga visit their respective home islands during an upcoming TCAP mission, so that they can provide support in ensuring their communities have the same understanding on/with the planned TCAP works on the two islands.
• Agreement on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) works to be carried out for the three targeted islands of Nanumea, Nanumaga and Funafuti.
• Endorsement of the project’s Communications Strategy.
• Endorsement of the Financial Report for 2019.
• Approval of the project’s Annual Work Plan for 2020, with a total budget of US$8.7 million.
• Agreement that TCAP increase its visibility to both local stakeholders and communities of Tuvalu as well as external stakeholders.
The next Project Board Meeting was agreed to take place in late 2020.
